The STEM Educational Robotics Research Group (SE-R RG) was established in 2022 and consists of two science educators, a mathematics educator, an engineer, and a computer scientist.
Our mission is to help students gain a deeper understanding of the human-made world beyond the natural world through STEM teaching and learning settings with robotics. This aligns with the primary goal of science education as defined by OECD: understanding phenomena scientifically. It is important to note that our aim is not to teach robotics coding to everyone.
As a research team, we have been creating and testing authentic problem-solving scenarios and teaching resources where learners are assigned to apply their science, robotics, and mathematics content knowledge into practice.
In these learning contexts, learners are typically required to devise a vehicle such as a fish monitoring device showing temperature or pH levels to help living things when changes occur in environmental conditions.
Another example involves designing a robotic system using Arduino kits to explore how we can create a system that prevents mold growth by controlling relative humidity.
